The industrial sector covers many different sub segments but with one common denominator. This is the necessity to maintain control over industrial machines and processes and to minimise production downtime. In general, M2M technologies provide an opportunity to effectively control, share and distribute information between machines, operators, process equipment, facilities and data management systems. It can encompass monitoring liquid levels in tanks, control temperature levels, log operational data, position equipment, update parameter settings or alarm in case of fault. An increasing trend within the industrial sector is the movement towards connected equipment such as machines and robotics in order to enable remote service monitoring. This will prevent downtime by monitoring the status of a certain asset and also provide direct access to a faulty machine in order to quickly analyse and if possible remotely rectify any problem.
