Transportation and logistics
Usage of wireless technologies within the transportation and logistics sector has been occuring for many years. However, new applications are constantly enabling a more efficient, secure and environmental-friendly transportation chain. This sector covers solutions for vehicles and other transportation devices such as trucks, courier vans, trailers, rail cargo and container shipping. To give an idea of the size of this sector, ACEA (2009) estimates the number of commercial trucks in Europe (EU23+2) to approximately 33 million. In addition there are some 250,000 trailers produced on a yearly basis, many of which also require connectivity. Read more
